As one of the hottest real estate markets in North America right now, good single-family detached homes are almost impossible to come by for under $1 million in Vancouver. In fact, the only home for sale under our $1 million threshold was a vintage home that was being listed as a "handyman or builder special". Situated on a 2100 square foot lot, the 1700 square foot house is nestled in a community that is 20 minutes outside of Vancouver's downtown core.

At current exchange rates, $1 million USD will get you GBP 770,000 worth of property. In real life, this transpires to a starting offer on a small, 736 square foot, 2 bedroom apartment above retail stores in the fashionable Spitalfields district. Although this loft-style apartment has been renovated to a high spec and features exposed brick work and an open floor plan, you won’t be enjoying a South Florida-style sunset as the apartment looks out to a neighboring building. Just a short distance to "The Tube", this apartment is approximately 25 minutes to the center of London.

Much like London, $1 million USD doesn't necessarily get you a lot in Sydney Australia, even though it amounts to $1.3 million AUD. However unlike London, the type of apartment you can purchase in Sydney, Australia tend to have beautiful views. The listing we chose has cathedral-style arched windows overlooking one of the city's parks. The apartment complex (which was once a church) includes a space for a car, 24 hour concierge and is pet-friendly. The 688 square foot apartment features high-end Jarrah hardwood floors, a limestone bathroom and a study nook which is located in the only bedroom.
Hong Kong is incredibly famous for small and expensive apartments and it didn’t disappoint in our search for what $1 million will get you across the globe. Even though $1 million USD will net you approximately $7.7 Million in Hong Kong, you will only get a partial water view in a 687 square foot apartment with two bedrooms. With two small balconies off of the kitchen and living room, this apartment is seen as a luxury apartment in this market. The building's facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, garden and sauna.
The gulf in quality, amenities and sheer size of home that you can get in Southeast Florida versus other markets is difficult to fathom. For less than $900,000, you could purchase a home in the beautiful gated community of Ranch Colony. Boasting four bedrooms, a four car garage and situated on over three-quarters of an acre of land, luxury homes in Jupiter and Southeast Florida are difficult to beat.
