Though the weather's nice throughout the year, summer is a particularly exciting time in South Florida. Around here, locals love to maximize their R&R potential by firing up the grill or hitting some of the Atlantic Coast's award-winning beaches, but there are also plenty of other activities—in and out of the sun—that will keep you and your family busy. With summertime just around the corner, here are eight exciting activities in and around Jupiter and West Palm Beach in the coming months:
The music lovers in your family will adore SunFest in West Palm Beach, a five day festival like no other that claims to be the largest waterfront celebration of music in the state of Florida. With a line-up featuring performers like Snoop Dogg, Blink-182, Macklemore, and Weezer, it promises to be your chance to party in the sun, and it's certainly not for those who don't like to rock. This year, SunFest features 50 bands, live artist performances, and more than 60 vendors. SunFest runs from May 3-7, and adult passes can be yours for $41 and up.
2. Run for a Cause
For 27 years, residents and visitors to the town of Jupiter have participated in the Turtle Trot, a brisk 5K run that begins at Ocean Cay Park and moves through some of Jupiter's most scenic areas. This is your chance to get out, stay fit, and meet fellow community members. The first 500 registered receive a free tech t-shirt, and all participants who finish will receive a medal. Registration is on-going until race day on May 6th and starts at just $30.
3. Free Kids Bowling at Jupiter Lanes
Sometimes it gets so hot that you need to get your family out of the sun, so why not do a little bowling? Jupiter Lanes on Maplewood Drive is celebrating Kids Fest on Saturday, May 6th. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., all kids under 15 get an hour of free bowling, while adults can play with them for discounted rates. As a bonus, all hot dogs and soft drinks are just $1 for the duration of the event.
4. Discover the Discover Pass
The Palm Beaches Discover Pass is a great opportunity to save money while exploring up to four stellar attractions across Jupiter, West Palm Beach, and Palm Beach Gardens, including fun on the water and access to the South Florida Science Center and the Palm Beach Zoo. You're free to customize your pass however you see fit, with individual prices starting at $9, so go nuts and create the perfect day for you and the kids.
5. Celebrate Halloween (Yes, Really)
Love baseball? Really love Halloween? At Roger Dean Stadium's "Halfway to Halloween" event, you can celebrate both of these things with a night of costume contests and trick-or-treating that will appeals the ghosts and ghouls in all of us. On Saturday, May 27th, kids under 15 are encouraged to dress-up and arrive early for a chance to grab some candy that will be air-dropped into the outfield by a helicopter. Tickets start at $7.
Starting with a cocktail party and awards reception on the evening of June 8th, The Gardens Mall will hold its 5th Annual CANstruction Exhibit, which features teams of designers, builders, and architects competing to create the best sculptures made entirely out of non-perishable foods. Not only is it tons of fun, but all this CANdemonium serves a good cause: raising funds for the Palm Beach County Food Bank.
7. Taste the Tropics
On Father's Day (June 18th) at Mounts Botanical Garden, visitors have a chance to sample rare tropical fruits from across the globe. A result of a partnership between the gardens and the Palm Beach Chapter of the Rare Fruit Council International, this festival will include displays of more than 100 fruits, demonstrations, and samples courtesy of Whole Foods. Tickets are free for members or $10 for non-members.
